Prof. Fan Mo Appointed Special Expert of the China International Science Exchange Foundation Expert Committee

Prof. Fan Mo, head of the research group, was recently appointed as a Special Expert of the China International Science Exchange Foundation Expert Committee, reflecting both his research strength and his academic influence in the field.

The China International Science Exchange Foundation is an important national organization for science and technology exchange and services. It plays a significant role in promoting innovation, supporting the transformation of scientific achievements, and serving major national strategic needs. In January 2011, 52 academicians and scientists, including Changxu Shi, jointly proposed the establishment of the "Outstanding Engineer Award" under the foundation. The award was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Office for Science and Technology Awards in October 2011, and its first selection cycle was launched in 2014.

The "Outstanding Engineer Award" is open to frontline science and engineering professionals across multiple industries and technical fields and is regarded as one of the most influential awards in China's engineering community. By 2025, six rounds of evaluation had been completed, with more than 450 awardees across 13 technical fields. Among them, 38 later became members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, making the award widely seen as an indicator of future academy members.

Established in September 2011, the CISEF Expert Committee is a major platform for high-level science and technology consulting. It brings together leading academicians and experts from across disciplines. The committee currently includes 10 science and technology groups, more than 130 academicians from the two Chinese national academies, more than 450 outstanding engineers, and more than 330 expert advisers. It provides strategic consultation on major national priorities and key socioeconomic issues, while also offering technical consultation and services to local governments and enterprises.

Special Experts are an important part of the committee and mainly contribute to science and technology consultation, technical guidance, and achievement transformation. Selection standards are strict, and candidates are expected to demonstrate strong academic achievement and professional influence in their respective fields. Fan Mo's appointment recognizes his long-term research contributions and will further support his role in high-level science and technology services and collaborative innovation.

The committee's leadership and expert roster includes many well-known scientists and academicians, including Nobel laureate Tsung-Dao Lee and senior members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and international academies. This institutional background highlights both the authority of the committee and the significance of the appointment.
