Postdoctoral Positions Jointly Recruited by Professor Fan Mo’s Group and the UESTC Chengdu Research Institute
Professor Fan Mo’s research group at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Human-Machine Intelligent Technology and Systems, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), is jointly recruiting several postdoctoral researchers with the UESTC Chengdu Research Institute. Applications are invited worldwide from candidates in artificial intelligence, robotics, intelligent manufacturing and related interdisciplinary fields.
Supervisor and Research Environment
Professor Fan Mo is a nationally recognized young talent, Professor and PhD Supervisor at UESTC, Director of the Institute of Industrial Artificial Intelligence, Deputy Director of the UESTC Robotics Research Center, IEEE Senior Member, Chartered Engineer (CEng), and Marie Curie Fellow. His research focuses on embodied intelligence and robot learning, world models and general decision-making, industrial AI in real-world systems, AI for Science, digital twins and human-machine collaboration.
The group is supported by the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Human-Machine Intelligent Technology and Systems, the Industrial AI and Robotics Laboratory, and the UESTC Chengdu Research Institute Postdoctoral Innovation Practice Base. It offers strong facilities for robotic systems, intelligent sensing and control, human-machine collaboration, rehabilitation engineering and intelligent manufacturing applications.
Research Areas
- Embodied intelligence and robot learning: VLA, multimodal perception and scene understanding, robot manipulation and skill learning, imitation and reinforcement learning, general robot policies, long-horizon planning and sim-to-real transfer.
- World models and general decision-making: world-model construction, environmental understanding and prediction, multimodal knowledge representation and reasoning, agent planning and decision-making, autonomous agents in complex environments and general task decisions.
- Industrial artificial intelligence: industrial foundation models, knowledge graphs and knowledge-enhanced intelligence, digital twins, manufacturing-system optimization, industrial vision, industrial robots, human-machine collaboration, and engineering deployment at scale.
- AI for Science: physics-informed neural networks, neural operators, scientific machine learning, complex-system modeling and optimization, scientific discovery, materials and energy systems, drug and medical discovery, and power-system modeling and optimization.
Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to, mechanical engineering, control science and engineering, automation, computer science and technology, artificial intelligence, robotics engineering, electrical engineering, energy and power engineering, electronic information and other interdisciplinary fields.
Eligibility
- Applicants should generally be no older than 35, have obtained or expect to obtain a PhD, and normally have received the PhD within the past three years, subject to national and UESTC postdoctoral regulations.
- Research interests should align with, or have a strong interdisciplinary fit with, the group’s research areas. Strong research, communication, English reading and academic-writing skills are expected.
- Applicants should be able to contribute to research-proposal and grant writing, including National Natural Science Foundation of China and related projects.
- At least one first-author SCI paper is required, published in a JCR Q1/Q2 or CAS Zone 1/2 journal. For co-first-author papers, the applicant must be listed first.
- Priority will be given to applicants with high-quality publications, robotics-system development, algorithm implementation, software-hardware integration, industrial-AI projects, open-source projects or datasets, interdisciplinary research, or international collaboration experience.
